It’s Time to “Mind Your Own Mortgage”

It’s time to mind your own mortgage and time for me to finally do a review on Rob Bernabe’s guide to choosing, managing and paying off your mortgage entitled–Mind Your Own Mortgage. This book empowers the reader to shop for a mortgage with confidence. Bernabe’s intention is to create a consumer awareness of the mortgage industry. He was instrumental in helping to turn E*Trade Mortgage from a small company to a leading online mortgage lender. and he has turned his expertise to helping the average home shopper. Mind Your Own Mortgage is filled with real-life scenarios, financial tools and exercises to help the homeowner and future homeowner to rethink the way they finance their homes.

Chocked full of information that it is and being that I am not very financially oriented, this book was a bit of a “dry” read.  One could go through this book better with a group or in a class setting where discussions could help the reader stay focused and not get bogged down in financial details which eludes the minds of the mathematically challenged like me. Even when Bernabe outlines the three things needed to manage mortgage debt such as “shop for mortgage like a gallon of gas;” “refinance only when it’s beneficial to you” and “manage your mortgage with the end in mind–an early pay-off date,” I’m fading fast.

Mind Your Mortgage is a very valuable resource to get the homeowners and future homeowners into a different mindset on the road to financial independence but it is not intended for the easily distracted.
